Dementia Accessible Cinema

What is this service?

Join us for a series of dementia accessible film screenings as part of our Discover Programme at Chelmsford Theatre.

Who is Dementia Accessible Cinema for?
Our dementia accessible film screenings are a chance to revisit a favourite film in a relaxed and welcoming environment. They are designed for those living with dementia, caring for someone who is, or those who simply want to enjoy a classic film in a friendly, understanding space.

What to expect at your cinema experience?
The doors will open at 12pm for tea, coffee and cake (available for a donation), with the film starting at 1pm. Your chosen classic favourite will be enjoyed in a calm environment where the lights are slightly up, the volume is gentle, and you're free to move around or talk if needed. Each film will have an interval to provide a movement and comfort break. We will also have additional staff and signage available to help and guide you to an accessible route into the studio.

How to book?
You or a carer can book through calling or visiting our Box Office from 10am to 3pm, Monday to Saturday. Tickets cost £2 and are free for your carer/companion. Tickets can also be purchased through our website.
