Smoke Alarms

What is this service?

The Essex Fire and Rescue Service recommend that each floor of your home has a working alarm fitted. These should be tested regularly and batteries replaced if necessary. They provide alarms free of charge to all Essex residents, via their Home Safety/Safe and Well Service. To keep you and your family safe from fire, contact EFRS by phone on 0300 3030088 or email home.safety@essex-fire.gov.uk

Other tips for keeping safe include:
Escape route - If fire breaks out it is essential that you and your family know your escape routes so you don't waste time. Prepare an escape route and make sure everyone knows it. Keep the route clear so there are no obstacles to slow you down.
Kitchen - More fires start in the kitchen than anywhere else in the home. Keep tea towels, cloths and packaging away from the cooker, and clean your oven and grill regularly to prevent a build-up of grease or fats.
