Background: Chelmsford strives to improve the quality of life for all residents and is committed to working to make Chelmsford a dementia friendly community. As the population gets older, work around dementia and other age related conditions will become more important to us all. The work will enable us to start addressing the issues of dementia with our partners in a meaningful and structured way.

Aims: Our aim is to make Chelmsford a dementia friendly city in which people living with dementia and their carers feel confident that they can fully participate in community life.

The main aims are: To raise the profile of dementia in Chelmsford and facilitate the development of Dementia Friendly Communities. To promote the Dementia Friends initiative. Engage with retailers and business owners to raise awareness.

History: We have been working to create and develop a Dementia Friendly Community in Chelmsford. The steering group was established in 2014 and has an active membership from both statutory and voluntary organisations. The group is to relaunched in February 2019 making the forthcoming year an exciting one.

Achievements: Registration on the Dementia Friendly Communities recognition process was achieved in February 2015.

Meetings: Quarterly. Sub groups meet between times when required.
