About

Dengie D Caf is run on a very friendly and informal basis by a team of volunteers who all have experience of Dementia within their own family. There is a very warm welcome for visitors to come in and relax for a couple of hours in a supportive and safe environment and to enjoy a regular break from the otherwise every day, often stressful and lonely routine.

We provide opportunities for people to engage in meaningful activities that meet individual social, emotional and physical needs. Dengie D-Caf also raises awareness of the issues that can affect members and helps them access support and information. Our team of volunteers are DBS checked and many have attended Basic First Aid training and become Dementia Friends as well.

We participate in many local relevant initiatives, including a regular Slipper Swap which is part of the Falls Prevention initiative and regular basic health checks with our local Primary Care trust. We also have access to a fully funded, Bi-Monthly Dementia Friendly Cinema at The Rio Cinema in Burnham on Crouch. this is held on the first Monday of every other month from February 2024, both organised and funded by Maldon & District Community Voluntary Services.

Our monthly sessions start with refreshments, followed by Seated Exercise, then an activity chosen by our members, usually Arts and Craft, Musical workshops or similar. Then we enjoy homemade cakes and more refreshments and finish with a quiz and singing. We have regular visitors from Alzheimer's society and other relevant professionals to support our carers.

During the summer months, we have regular monthly outings for all members to local places of interest including pub lunches, vineyards, local gardens and petting zoos. These outings are chosen by our members at the beginning of each year.
